Welcome to the website of GX Computers. The company is based in the Gerrards Cross area, South Buckinghamshire. The aim of the company is as follows:
For many people using technology is a everyday experience. It should be a painless one, but sadly this is not always the case. Countless hours are wasted juggling with computers, laptops and tablets that are badly configured. This can be fixed for you so that your equipment is a joy to work with rather than giving you a headache.
In the late 1900s an Italian economist called Vilfredo Pareto, worked out that most things work on an 80/20 ratio. He assessed that 80% of Italian land was owned by 20% of the people. This principle can be adopted in many walks of life. For instance 80% of the time we choose to wear 20% of the clothes that we own. The rule can also be applied to technology. For 80% of the time we only use 20% of the programs that are installed on our equipment. So why let the 80% of the programs that you will probably never use get in the way?
The Windows operating system has been in existence for many years. It has moved through multiple versions and has now reached Window 10. As you can see from the image below the interface can be bit daunting. Windows 10 works well but 'out of the box' it can look confusing and somewhat complicated.
When you click on the start menu you will probably be faced with a mass of information. Again this can be daunting. The good news is that the look and feel of the desktop and the start menu can be simplified, please see the image below.
The desktop can be set up to show only the programs and buttons that you are most likely to use. Any programs/buttons that are not shown are only a click away.
Your computer/laptop can also be organised to emulate an Apple Mac. Programs can be loaded and run from the dock at the bottom of the screen. Arranging the desktop in this way makes for a very lean/clean interface.
The general advice is to dispose of older equipment. Unless your equipment is really old it can be significantly improved by simply replacing the hard disc drive with a new super fast solid state drive. By fitting a new solid state drive (cost can be under £40) your older computer/laptop will run so much faster, even faster than when you first bought it!
If you do decide to upgrade rather than replace, the upgrade process will be a hassle free experience for you. If it is not possible to carry out the upgrade at your home/place of work, you will be provided with a free temporary computer/laptop whilst the work is being carried out. Most upgrades can be completed in a very short space of time.
Don't be too hasty to throw away old equipment, please contact us, you could make significant savings.
GX Computers creates websites for the Park Federation group of schools. There are eight schools in the Federation and I maintain websites for seven of them. Unusually the websites - all the materials - letters, newsletters, policies, photographs videos etc - are updated by the company.
